Safe, considerate flying is fun flying

Flying site
Our flying site is at Kaikohe Airport, located on State Highway 15 a few kilometers south of Kaikohe. We are fortunate to have such an amazing site which is available to us 7 days a week..

Kaikohe Airport is an airfield south-east of Kaikohe in the Northland region of New Zealand. Built in 1942 as a US Marines bomber base, it is the largest grass strip in the Southern hemisphere which is now used by gliders, skydiving, and the occasional full size visitor aircraft which use Runway 17/35 (1540 m x 140 m).

Model aircraft have the use of Runway 13/31 (925 m x 60 m), with designated pits, taxiways and a clear, large flying area to the South East.

Flying at Kaikohe Airport is subject to the applicable regulations of Airways New Zealand and the Civil Aviation Authority. Although full size traffic is light, care must be taken at all times to prevent the possibility of an accident. We are also cognisant of the needs of Far North Holdings, part of the Far North District Council who are the owners of the airfield.

Most club members fly on a Sunday morning, although flying at other times is possible when at least 2 members are present in line with CAA, MFNZ and club requirements.
